Achieve a Happier, Healthier Morning Routine with Organic CBD + 4 Other A.M. Practices

Some folks are naturally morning people. Others, not so much.

Either way — whether you love waking up with the sun or prefer to press snooze a hundred times — having a morning routine can work wonders for your health and happiness. How you start your day can set the tone for the hours that follow by impacting your mood, wellbeing, and productivity levels throughout the afternoon and into the evening. If you’ve ever used the expression, “I woke up on the wrong side of the bed,” you know how rough mornings can create a cloud of irritability that follows you throughout the day. Conversely, if you wake up on the “right” side, your outlook is generally more positive, your mood is elevated, and you’re ready to take on anything.

That being said, it’s obvious that our A.M. habits hold serious significance. From making your bed to taking organic CBD, many seemingly simple tasks can change the entire forecast of your day. But why, exactly, are morning routines so essential, and how do they benefit your overall health and happiness?

Here’s why morning routines are essential.

In this article, author Debby Germino shares some anecdotal advice a college professor once gave her: “He told me to get up early. He said that if I could start my day before most people have even gotten out of bed, I would already be ahead of the game.”

This professor was certainly on to something. That’s because morning routines (and many routines, for that matter) are an indicator of willpower. According to Forbes, willpower is the single most important keystone habit for individual success, as it predicts academic performance better than your IQ, it instills us with self-esteem and self-confidence, and empowers us to take ownership and responsibility for our lives. All of these aspects combined can give not only our mental health a boost, but our happiness levels, too.

It’s a well-known fact that the world’s most successful people possess incredible willpower and determination that are reinforced by none other than their consistent morning routines. But what exactly do these morning routines look like, and what practices can you implement to achieve peak levels of happiness and avoid the crankiness that results from a rocky wakeup?

Here are six ways to enjoy a happier, healthier morning routine.

If you’re not in the habit of waking up early, embarking on a morning routine might seem overwhelming. Luckily, there are a few easy things you can work on when you first wake up. You can even start one-by-one, which makes them all the more achievable. Start with these and see where they take you:

  1. Make your bed.

If your mom told you to make your bed every day as a child, guess what? Mom was right again. This childhood chore might seem unnecessary in adulthood, but it can be surprisingly beneficial for your mood. Naval Admiral William McRaven, the commander of U.S. Special Operations, said it best: “If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride, and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another. By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that the little things in life matter.”

  1. Drink water when you wake up.

After a full night of sleep, your body is dehydrated. Nourish it first thing with a 16-ounce glass of water to fire up your metabolism, get hydrated, flush the toxins out of your body, and fuel your brain.

  1. Practice meditation and focus your mind.

If your mind runs a million miles a minute, try adding meditation to your morning routine. Taking 10 minutes to refocus your brain can increase your awareness and prevent stress and anxiety — this is especially helpful for rebooting your brain on mornings when you do, in fact, “wake up on the wrong side of the bed.”

  1. Get moving with early-morning exercise.

Working out any time of day is beneficial, but exercising first thing in the morning has its own set of perks. For one thing, knocking it out right away means you’re less likely to skip exercising later on. For another, it can wake you up and leave you feeling more energized throughout the day. And don’t even get us started on the endorphins — these little mood-boosters that are released during and after exercise can help keep you happy all day long.

  1. Add organic CBD to your morning coffee or juice.

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a natural stress-reducer and mood-booster. It works by stimulating specific receptors in the brain to help regulate functions like sleep, appetite, mood, motor control, immune function, pain, pleasure, memory, temperature, and more. Create a CBD routine by adding a few drops of broad spectrum CBD oil to your morning coffee, juice, or smoothie to help you relax and get ready to take on the day.
